Project reCycle

Project reCycle is going to be an ongoing blog featurette from Rick “jenkins” Jesse thanks to the boys at Jackrabbitt.net I was donated a huge bag of bits and this is the first post of how those bits will become a dead cool ride.

It was my birthday recently and I was given Dan’s old Identiti frame which he lovingly dremmel’d Happy Birthday onto. Now you might think hmmm some birthday present a tatty green hardtail frame, but I happened to know that it’s not a bad frame, and has seen a fair few incidents in its life…like the time Dan tried his first table top at Dalby only to land rather too short and too hard, at which point his legs compressed, his butt hit the seat, the seat post snapped and the general weight of gravity and mass took over and Dan’s butt carried on post the broken seat post (missing being painfully impaled by an inch) and landed on the back wheel. As the bike was moving at speed still, the knobbly tyres did what could only be described as “taking a chuck out his ass”. Needless to say the poor boy was very much in pain, but was able to just keep it together for an interview with a local journo, whilst the blood dribbled down his leg. I was most upset for Dan, in truth I was laughing so hard I nearly wee’d.

Anyway I digress, ooops

Basically to cut a long story short I have another mountain bike which I regularly ride, which even though it has a few modern additions of hydraulic disc brakes and front suspension, it’s a Kona but it is a bit of a shed and you could even call it a death trap. Recently Dan heard of a case where a chap had his bike stolen and on a web forum lots of individual members donated spare parts to build the guy a unique machine basically for free…..now that is what you call a community. So spurred on by this recent knowledge Facebook messages were sent out to lots of the Jackrabbitt.net community and low and behold what turns up but a frame and a bag of bits.

These are the people I have to say a BIG thanks to…Grave, Kieran, Mike, Derek, Rob and of course Dan.

The frame has now been sent off to be sand blasted and powder coated, can’t wait to see what it looks like.

Rick also has www.myvwcamperblog.com which is a blog about his VW camper restoration, which currently features a very similar story to this one ;)
